Welcome Volunteer Chaplains
Volunteer Chaplains

Become a Volunteer at a Caring Indiana HospitalAn important part of patient care at Logansport Memorial Hospital is meeting the spiritual needs of our patients. Our chaplains are an integral part of the Logansport Memorial Hospital health care team – always readily available to provide a compassionate presence, a listening ear and a prayer to patients, their families and our staff.

Through the ministry of our Volunteer Chaplains at Logansport Memorial Hospital, Volunteer Chaplains help address the spiritual and religious concerns raised by families during hospitalization. Volunteer chaplains are clergy or lay leaders who are ordained, credentialed, appointed and trained by their respective religious bodies.

There is a wide variety of ways a volunteer chaplain may be involved in a case. Some of these may include: pastoral visitation, pastoral crisis intervention; spiritual assessment of a case; offering a prayer or blessing; administration of religious rites or sacraments (baptism, dedication of child, communion); ongoing pastoral support for long term cases; pastoral care during the dying process; and referral to clergy of the family's religion, spiritual support, counsel, guidance; ethical consultation; and referral to a clergyperson of the family's faith group.

There are several ways that volunteer chaplains can serve. Some of the more common ways:

  • Designate a regular time commitment each week (between 2 to 4 hours) on a regular day to make visitations for spiritual assessment and pastoral support.
  • Be on-call, when the staff chaplain is not available.
  • Participate in our Bereavement Support programs.
