Physicians throughout North Central Indiana refer patients to the Cardiopulmonary Department at Logansport Memorial Hospital for reliable and efficient cardiac and pulmonary testing. When you need diagnostic testing, you don’t need to travel far from home – the caring, thorough review you require is available right here.

Common cardiac and pulmonary diagnostic testing includes:

Electrocardiogram (EKG)

A non-invasive test that records the electrical activity of the heart while the patient is resting. A physician carefully reviews the results to look for abnormalities.

Stress Testing

Most cardiac stress tests are performed utilizing exercise. A physician and a respiratory therapist are both present during each of these tests:

  • Regular stress test (also called a treadmill test)
  • Nuclear stress test with treadmill
  • Nuclear stress test with Adenosine (pharmacological test)
  • Stress echo
  • Dobutamine stress echo

Holter Monitoring

A Holter monitor is a recording device that detects and records every heart beat for either 24 or 48 hours. Once the patient completes the specified time, a therapist removes the monitor and then scans the entire recording and prepares a report for the physician to review.

Event Recorder

A monitor that records the patient’s heart rhythm for a brief period of time (anywhere from 30-60 seconds) once it is activated by the patient during symptoms.

Pulmonary Function Testing (PFT)

A broad area of testing that assesses the coordination, movement and effectiveness of muscles to move air in and out of the chest. Logansport Memorial Hospital has a “body box” that gives our staff the ability to perform several tests not available at all facilities.

Arterial Brachial Index (ABI)

A non-invasive test that checks for peripheral vascular disease by comparing blood pressures between the arms and legs.

Echocardiography (Echo)

Known as an ultrasound of the heart, the echo uses high-pitched sound waves to produce an image of the heart that shows the heart’s ability to pump blood effectively throughout the body and measures the volume of blood pumped in each contraction.

Additional cardiopulmonary diagnostic tests conducted at Logansport Memorial include:

  • Sleep Studies
  • Pulmonary Function/Plethysmography Exercise
  • Vascular Testing
  • Electroencephalogram (EEG)
  • Oximetry
  • Chest Percussion
