When receiving breast care services at Logansport Memorial Hospital, you will meet with expert providers who work with the latest technologies, seeking to find cancer early when it is most treatable.

Mammograms

Mammography is a diagnostic or screening tool using low-dose X-rays to examine the breast. The goal of mammograms is to find breast cancer early, typically through the detection of characteristic masses or lumps.

No other imaging technique has been shown to reduce the risk of breast cancer, but breast self-examinations and routine wellness exams with a primary care provider are considered essential parts of regular breast care.

Mammograms for uninsured women

The Logansport Memorial Hospital Foundation is proud to provide funds for uninsured or under-insured Cass County women to receive needed mammograms. Through the generosity of individual and community donors as well as proceeds from our annual River Bluff Run, women with financial need can still receive critical breast cancer screenings.

Stereotactic breast biopsy

Stereotactic breast biopsy is a minimally invasive procedure that takes a tissue sample from a questionable area in your breast using a special type of needle. The biopsy is obtained through a tiny nick in the skin so small that there’s no need for sutures. Recovery time is minimal.

The appearance and location of the lesion will determine whether a stereotactic biopsy is an option for you.

Breast MRI

Breast MRI is considered a powerful technological tool for breast care and diagnosis of disease or cancer. When an initial concern has been located through a traditional mammogram, doctors may use this non-invasive procedure to examine breast tissue with greater clarity.

Each exam produces hundreds of images of the breast, cross-sectional in all three directions (side-to-side, top-to-bottom, front-to-back). No radioactivity is involved, and the technique is believed to have no health hazards.

An MRI of the breast is not a replacement for mammography or ultrasound imaging, but rather it is a supplemental tool for detecting breast abnormalities and staging breast cancer treatments.
