A hospital is more than a place where people go to heal or receive care. It is a part of the community that fosters health and represents hope. From providing treatment and comfort to the sick, to welcoming new life into the world, hospitals are central to a healthy and optimistic community. That’s the national message being sent around the country with the 2012 National Hospital Week theme, “Making Miracles Happen.”
The event theme is the centerpiece of a promotional campaign aimed at uniting healthcare facilities across the country during the week of May 6 – 12 this year.
“National Hospital Week, first and foremost, is a celebration of people,” says David Ameen, President/CEO of Logansport Memorial Hospital. “We’re extremely proud of each member of our staff and we recognize the important role they play in extending a sense of trust to our patients and community.”
As the nation’s largest healthcare event, National Hospital Week dates back to 1921 when it was suggested by a magazine editor who hoped a community-wide celebration would alleviate public fears about hospitals. The celebration, launched in Chicago, succeeded in promoting trust and goodwill among members of the community and eventually spread to facilities across the country.
We have a full week of activities planned for our employees, including a banquet honoring years of service given to the hospital. “This event theme is something that we see lived out each day here at the hospital,” comments David. “Our staff is truly dedicated to caring for their friends and community family members. To me, that’s something worth celebrating with national recognition, but also all year round.”
